Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best carpet type for stairs?

A durable, low-pile carpet like a twist or Wilton carpet is ideal for stairs.

How do I prevent stair carpet wear and tear?

Using carpet runners or stair rods can help protect high-traffic areas.

Are patterned carpets good for hallways?

Yes, patterns help hide dirt and wear, making them great for busy hallways.

How do I measure my stairs for carpet installation?

To measure stairs for carpets, start by measuring the width of each step and the length of the tread and riser (over nosing). For example, 12 standard steps at 83cm wide x 45cm o/n. If you have winder (triangle) steps, measure them separately at their widest and longest points. A curved bottom step (bullnose) also needs a separate measurement, ensuring the widest part around the curve is included. Example measurements:

• Standard steps: 9x @ 83cm wide x 45cm o/n

• Winder steps: 1.00m x 50cm o/n, 70cm x 55cm o/n, 95cm x 60cm o/n

• Bullnose step: 1.20m x 45cm o/n

Stairs are usually carpeted in strips to minimise waste. If you’re covering the landing or hallway in the same carpet, creating a plan helps optimise material usage. For example, a 4m x 4m carpet could cover the hall, stairs, and landing efficiently. Can I use the same carpet for stairs, hallways, and landings?

Yes, using a consistent carpet style creates a seamless and cohesive look.
